My research is in animal behaviour and animal welfare and focuses on animal motivation and behavioural needs. Research in dairy calves investigates effects of milk feeding management and the social rearing on behaviour and welfare. Research in dairy cows investigates potential positive effects of cows rearing their own calves and seeks solution to the challenge of separating calf and dam at weaning. Also in dairy cows, research investigates potential negative effects of methane-reducing feeding on welfare. Finally, research on positive animal welfare investigates how housing and management that promotes positive experiences can contribute to a good animal life.
