Adfærd, Stress og Dyrevelfærd

What We Do

We perform research to understand how positive and negative animal welfare states are shaped by environmental, nutritional, health, genetic and behavioural factors.

We investigate behaviour, affective states, stress and pain responses, and clinical conditions in animals kept by humans.

We integrate science-based knowledge to develop animal welfare and health promoting practices that meet societal demand for a more sustainable keeping of animals

We provide research-based policy advice within our focus areas and develop and deliver innovative research-based teaching across Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science curricula

Our primary focus areas

  • Animals kept by humans for food production, companion, sport and in nature-based systems
  • Applied research to understand how current and future husbandry practices affect One health and One welfare
  • Basic and applied research to understand learning capacity, nociception, pain and stress-responses in animals kept by humans.
  • Clinical veterinary research to understand health mechanisms and host-parasite interactions
  • Research to identify and validate indicators for assessing positive and negative welfare.
  • Research on digital technologies for the automated and longitudinal assessment of behaviour, affective states, health and welfare and for clinical imaging.
  • Research on methods for integrating animal welfare into sustainability assessment tools.
