On January 1 2023, Louise Bundgaard started her new position as assistant professor at the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (ANIVET) at Aarhus University. Louise will help create and establish the best possible framework for the new veterinary science degree programme at AU Viborg.
The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences must contribute to the establishment of important networking between Denmark and Korea/Asia in relation to supporting the One Health agenda and fighting antibiotic resistance at global level by balancing and optimising the health of both animals and humans.
The research facilities at the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences have been expanded with new advanced respiration chambers for pigs. This will allow for a wide range of possible research projects in the future – not least in relation to the animals' greenhouse gas emissions and climate impact.
Following the decision that AU Viborg - Research Centre Foulum will be hosting the three new study programmes - Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science and Agrobiology - the Department of Animal Science at Aarhus University has been busy. The reason for this is that it plays a key role in the establishment of the new study programmes. The department has now also changed its name to the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (ANIVET) and implemented a reorganisation.
Aarhus University, Department of Animal Science, is one of the participants in a new big H2020 project linking extensive husbandry production to the production of quality meat from pigs and poultry.
On the 21st of May 2021, the project “Best practices for alternative egg production systems” (‘Best Practice Hens’) has started. This project aims to collate knowledge on best practices regarding husbandry of pullets and adult laying hens in cage-free systems (in barn, free range and organic) and to support the transition to cage-free systems for laying hens in the EU.
Anja Brinch Riber succeeds Sanna Steenfeldt in the role as poultry coordinator in Department of Animal Science.
From May 15th 2021 Gavin L. Simpson has been employed as assistant professor in applied biometrics at the Department of Animal Science, section of Health, Aarhus University in a four year position.
