DPP is coming to Denmark again!

We’re proud to announce that Denmark has been selected to host the 17th International Symposium on Digestive Physiology of Pigs (DPP) in 2028, with Aarhus University’s Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences taking the lead in organising the event.

The winning pitch was presented by Prof. Knud Erik Bach Knudsen, Department Head Charlotte Lauridsen, and Senior Researcher Nuria Canibe (who will now soon represent on the DPP International Steering Committee). Their bid received the most votes and was officially announced on the final day of the 16th DPP Symposium, held this May in Wisconsin, USA.

DPP is an internationally highly recognized conference on pig nutrition, physiology, and health and has been held in different countries in Europe and North America.

The team is thrilled to bring this globally respected symposium to Denmark once again, with Aarhus City as the host venue. Denmark has a long tradition of excellence in pig production and research, and Aarhus University - particularly through the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences - plays a central role in that. With strong expertise in animal nutrition, gut physiology, and sustainable livestock systems, we are well-positioned to host an event that pushes the field forward. Our university has also been at the heart of large-scale collaborations like PIG-PARADIGM, which brings together leading institutions in Denmark, the Netherlands, and the US to tackle some of the biggest challenges in pig production today.

We are committed to delivering a high-quality scientific program and a welcoming conference environment, and we are grateful for the support from Aarhus University, especially the Faculty of Technical Sciences. We also look forward also to engage our external collaborators into the scientific program and the conference arrangements, including the University of Copenhagen, SEGES Innovation, the municipality of Aarhus, Visit Aarhus, and others.

We look forward to hosting the international pig research community in 2028 and to showcasing not only Denmark’s contributions to the field but also the energy, talent, and commitment of our department and university.
