New funding opportunity for dairy and beef research
Funding has just been announced for eleven new projects funded by the EU SmartCow project. The new projects cover a wide range of nutrition and feed topics – with important effects on product quality, greenhouse gas emissions and animal welfare. The next Call for Proposals will be launched in April 2019.
SmartCow makes available cattle research facilities of leading dairy and beef researchers across Europe, so that academic or industry colleagues can apply for funding for studies in nutrition, physiology, ethology and animal husbandry. A key feature of this programme is that research must be conducted in a different country to the applicant’s base.
The new projects
The first tranche of projects came from UK, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Denmark and Spain – and organisations providing access are Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), University of Reading, Teagasc, Wageningen University, Wageningen University and Research, Aarhus University, and French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA). The new projects cover a wide range of nutrition and feed topics – with important effects on product quality, greenhouse gas emissions and cow welfare. The next Call for proposals will be launched in April 2019.
Study Tour and event
The SmartCow team is organising a Study Tour and Stakeholder Event to provide more information about this opportunity and to profile the beef and dairy research facilities of Scotland’s Rural College in Edinburgh and Dumfries. The meeting will be held 5th to 6th March 2019 – further details and booking information are available at: http://www.smartcow.eu/events/
